Trey Anastasio
Born Ernest Joseph (Guiseppie) Anastasio III (Trey) on September 30, 1964 in Fort Worth, TX. Grew up in Princeton, NJ.
Trey is in Phish. He plays guitar. He is very good.
Jedi
Some might not believe this but Trey was, in fact, a Jedi. He is able to wield his guitar like a lightsaber, usually involving the Boomerang and other delay effects as well as feedback, and strike down the souls of everybody in attendance. It's a fact. It's happened many times... what, you don't believe me?? Rumors have circulated over the years that Trey is the only guitarist in the world to ever outplay the omnipotent Chuck Norris. Other sources have revealed that Trey is Chuck Norris.
Stage setup
You can view Trey's guitar setup here.
Trey has played these guitars: a Pearl-white solid-body Ibanez; a Wentzell acoustic; a mini, half-size travel electric made by Paul Languedoc from Bubinga wood; the Original blonde Languedoc built in 1987 from a combination of spruce and maple, with 2 humbuckers and a piece of plastic filling the middle pickup hole; The Padauk blonde Languedoc (his main guitar) built in 1990 with the same finish as the original one but made from Padauk, with a different inlay on the headstock, a large inlay from frets 11-13, and two chrome humbuckers; The Koa Languedoc built in 1996 with a darker, redder finish, almost like mahagony, with different inlays, and two humbuckers.
He currently plays another incarnation of his custom Languedoc that was built in 2002.
Treys amps consist of two vintage combos: a Fender Deluxe Reverb, the one on the right (house right, stage left) is from 1967, it has four mics taking sound from the single 12-inch speaker, and the one on the left (beside Page, and with only one mic), a backup, is from 1968. Trey also has a mini leslie speaker mounted on top of his effects rig.
Trey uses 2mm Adamas Graphite picks and DR strings .010 - .046.
Trey's pickups include Schaller Golden 50 humbuckers with chrome covers.
Trey's effects consist of a Digitech Whammy II, a Dunlop Crybaby Wah, two Ibanez TS9 Tube Screamers (later replaced by Analogman TS9/808/Silver mods), a Ross compressor (later replaced by an Analogman BICOMPROSSER), an Ernie Ball volume pedal and a Bradshaw remote switch.
His rack mount consists of: a Korg Dtr-2 tuner, Ibanez DM2000 delay (footswtch controlled), CAE Black Cat Vibe, CAE Super Tremolo (footswitch controlled), Alesis Microverbs (X3) and a CAE power supply.
His custom Languedocs, which are hollow bodies, also give him his true sound.
