Entering Setlists

This is a step-by step process of how to enter a setlist for a particular show.

  • Note: Typical ways to link to each show: There are usually 2 links, one to that setlist on the year page, followed by another to the details page. The link to the year page is shown abbreviated (like YYYY-MM-DD), and sometimes followed by a link to the details page which looks like a [+]. When using a standalone link to a details page, the Month D, YYYY format is used.
    • YYYY#Month D, YYYY - Link to the show on its year page. [Don't use this. Use the abbreviated link]
    • YYYY-MM-DD - Abbreviated link to the show on its year page.
    • Month D, YYYY - Standalone link to a details page.
    • [[Month D, YYYY|[+]]] - Abbreviated link to a details page. [Use this following the abbreviated year page link in most places]

Identify the date

  • Verify no existing enry for that date on the wiki if you're entering a "new" setlist.
  • Setlists are entered in 3 places, the year page, the tour page, and the details page. Since the tour page is a straight copy of the setlist on the year page, we won't worry about it until the entire year page and possibly a bulk of that part of the wiki is built.
  • If you're modifying/correcting a setlist, it will have to be modified/corected in all 3 places (unless it doesn't exist in all 3 yet). Also take care to note that changing a setlist may cause a difference in the song pages of the songs around your modification.
  • How to access shows and their details pages...
    • The show's address on its year page is YYYY#Month D, YYYY
    • The show's address for it's details page is Month D, YYYY
    • The show's address on its tour page is Tour_YYYY (Since tours don't have a long list, you just have to scroll down on the tour page)

Gather setlist resources

Prepare the setlist

  • Setlists are formatted under specific guidelines. Use an existing page, or the templates shown as a guide.

The Year Page Setlist

  • Follow this template
October 7, 2000
<font size="3">Shoreline Amphitheatre, Mountain View, CA</font><br>
Set 1 (1:03): First Tube, Mike's Song > I Am Hydrogen > Weekapaug Groove, Fee, Bathtub Gin, Glide, My Soul<br>
Set 2 (1:11): Twist > 2001 > Tweezer, Wading in the Velvet Sea, Meatstick, David Bowie, Tweezer Reprise<br>
Encore (0:23): You Enjoy Myself<br>
  • Notice things like where set timings go, the quotations used for formatting and other html formatting, spaces before and after, etc.
  • Fix all song names. The setlists sites are inconsistent, and so it Phish themselves. Most songs in the year 2000 have been standardized, so look there. Anything that is blue, has a link, and therefore is most likely also correct. If you don't know, research, then ask.

The Details Page Setlist

  • Follow this template

Set 1 (1:03):<br>
01. First Tube<br>

04. Weekapaug Groove<br>
05. Fee<br>
06. Bathtub Gin<br>
07. Glide<br>
08. My Soul<br>
Set 2 (1:11):<br>
01. Twist ><br>

  • To get to your new details page, on the year page, click the link that you created when you entered the setlist there.
  • Take care to notice all formatting intricacies, how notes are written, and how to link to other things.
  • When done, verify that all links work properly.

Setlist Hints

Hopefully some others can add hints here

  • If you get your setlist from mockingbird, they're pretty accurate. I have a macro that runs in word that will "fix" your setlist for both the details and year page (although you do have to do one set at a time, it saves time) Write Jephrey@week4paug.net to ask for the macro.
  • Look at existing pages, they will be very helpful.
  • Find a way that works best for you. It doesn't take long to get in a groove although at first it may seem very tedious.

Entering Songs

This is a step-by step process of how to enter a song page.

  • Note: Unless the song has been played about 10 times or less, entering the table on the song page is extremely tedious. There is a macro to use that makes it much more reasonable, but it will take some instruction to use. Write Jephrey@week4paug.net to ask for the macro.

Identify the song

  • Verify no existing enry for that song on the wiki if you're entering a "new" song.
    • Entered songs are on the songs and cover songs pages. When you enter a song, it's automatically added to this list when you put or at the bottom of the code.
    • Spelling and punctuation are important, and decisions on many songs have already been made on what capitalization an punctuation should be used.
    • Look at setlists, as well as the songs or cover songs pages to determine if the songs are on the wiki already.

Gather song resources

  • As in existing songs, you'll want to add as much information as possible. This includes, for now, number of times played, the creator, lyrics, your own write-up about the song and its origins, and links to any musical resources.
    • To get a list of every time the song has been played (although it can be inaccurate, it's a great place to start) use the Phististics section of ihoz.
    • At minimum, retreive musical resources from Emil's Tabs It is a wiki also, and instead of copying a mass amount of data, we can just link to that wiki. We will post lyrics, simply because there is no one-stop-shop for lyrics, although Emil's has most.

Prepare the song page

  • Song pages are formatted under specific guidelines. Use an existing page, or the template shown as a guide.
  • Follow this template (note that only 3 instances of the song are shown)

|Although there's much to say of earlier and later versions, 1997 and 1998 brought on some long jam segments that
strayed so far from the song's theme, that it was amazing that the band found a way back to the main theme.

*Lyrics
<blockquote>
Verse:<br>
Brett is in the bathtub, making soup for the ambassadors,<br>
And I am in the hallway, singing to the troubadours,<br>
And the kings are all lined up, outside the gate,<br>
And the autumn bell is ringing, but they'll just have to wait.<br>
Where is the joker? Have you seen him around with his 3-combed...<br>
Cap, that he wears like a crown<br>
Have you seen his striped stockings, and heard his sad tales,<br>
About the kids under the carpet, and the purple humpback whales.<br><br>

Here comes the ambassadors, they show up one by one,<br>
And Brett is tasting all the soup to see if it done<br>
And Wendy's on the window sill, waiting to be let in,<br>
And we're all in the bathtub now, making bathtub gin,<br>
And the kings storm the hallway, they've climbed up through the gate,<br>
They didn't mean to be impolite, but they just couldn't wait,<br>
Here comes the joker, with his silly grin,<br>
He carries a martini, made of bathtub gin<br><br>

Here comes the joker, we all must laugh,<br>
Cause we're all in this together, and we love to take a bath.<br><br>

  • Take care to notice all formatting intricacies and how lyrics are written.
  • When done, verify that all links work properly.
  • In this example, there's a line after the preceeding and following song name. Use this for notes. The notes will be added as people randomly go through setlists.

Song Hints

Hopefully some others can add hints here

  • Use the macro to generate the instances data and again, email Jephrey@Week4paug.net to get it along with instructions.
  • Use existing songs or ask if you're unsure how to do something.
